Two protests are scheduled in a 22-hour period starting Friday morning, both along N.C. 87 at the Smithfield Foods plant. Rise Up – Shut It Down, a group led by Jackie Affsa of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has filed and been granted permits by the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office. The first is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday outside the facility at 15855 N.C. 87 and is estimated to draw about 200; the second is from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday, same location, and expected to draw a couple dozen.
