Lawmakers returned from their three-week hiatus on Wednesday to begin the 2019 legislative session in earnest, but the day was highlighted by four news conferences in which some legislators set up some agenda priorities. House and Senate Democrats rolled out their plans to expand the state's Medicaid program to more low-income working adults. Although the proposal might get a hearing in the House, Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger said he doesn't believe expansion can be done without hurting state finances in the future.
