Industrial Hemp, a crop that was once among the most prominent and productive in the nation, is poised to make a comeback after recent changes to federal law. While the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) had previously approved pilot programs for studying market interest in hemp-derived products, the 2018 Farm Bill allows for much broader production. Most importantly, it allows the transfer of hemp-derived products across state lines for commercial or other purposes. The Farm Bill also lifts restrictions on the sale and possession of hemp-derived products, so long as those items are produced in a manner consistent with current laws.
