Ag industry leaders will join with manufacturers and other business representatives on Capitol Hill later this week to deliver a message to lawmakers that the time is now to increase pressure on Trump and his administration to end the trade war.

Call for oversight: This week's fly-in will feature more than 100 farmers and business reps from across the country who will be calling for congressional oversight hearings on the tariffs' widespread effects. They will also be pressuring lawmakers to oppose legislation spearheaded by Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.) that would expand executive authority over tariffs.

New info coming: The advocacy effort, which is being organized by the group Tariffs Hurt the Heartland, will also include release of a new study examining how different tariff scenarios will impact jobs, American families and the economy. That release is scheduled for Wednesday.

Time is running short: The effort comes as less than a month remains before the U.S.-China trade truce ends on March 1. A White House statement issued after the latest high-level talks wrapped up in Washington last week pointed to big differences between the two sides — and reiterated that tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods will rise to 25 percent if no deal is reached.

The lobbying push is also aimed at emphasizing how additional duties on top of those already in place will magnify the effects on farmers and manufacturers who are already bearing the brunt of trade tensions.
