Environmental groups are asking state environmental officials to reverse its classification of the lower Cape Fear River as swamp water. “It is past time for the state to remove this erroneous classification from the books,” Brooks Rainey Pearson, an attorney with the Southern Environmental Law Center representing Cape Fear River Watch and Waterkeeper Alliance said in a statement. “The lower Cape Fear is simply not a swamp.”
