Winter Apple School: NCSU making push to recruit more students from rural areas

It’s getting harder for students to get into North Carolina State University, and that’s a problem for a land grant university that’s supposed to be educating the sons and daughters of farmers, according to Dr. Rich Bonanno, director of the North Carolina Extension. Bonanno, also the dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at N.C. State, told local growers gathered for the annual Winter Apple School that the university sees between 35,000 and 45,000 applications for just less than 5,000 slots.
