University of Mount Olive (UMO) will host U.S Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue for a town hall on Monday, February 11th at 3 PM.  During the town hall meeting with the North Carolina Farm Bureau, farmers, and students, Secretary Perdue will share information about the USMCA, the new trade deal between the US, Canada, and Mexico.  The event will be held in the Holmes and Lois K. Murphy Center located at 630 Henderson Street on the UMO campus.

We have a newly dedicated student farm that serves as a learning laboratory focused on providing students with knowledge and skills that translate into careers. The support of agribusiness partners, alumni, and supporters engaged in the agricultural industry enables the UMO agriculture program to provide students the opportunity to pursue careers in this state’s number one industry.  It is indeed a great day for the University of Mount Olive to welcome Secretary Perdue.”

Secretary Perdue came by his knowledge of agriculture the old fashioned way: he was born into a farming family in Bonaire, Georgia. From childhood, and through his life in business and elected office, Perdue has experienced the industry from every possible perspective. Uniquely qualified as a former farmer, agribusiness man, veterinarian, state legislator, and governor of Georgia, he became the 31st United States Secretary of Agriculture on April 25, 2017.
