Two people from the Fayetteville-Fort Bragg region are in the 2020 race for lieutenant governor. They are Republican former U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers of Dunn in Harnett County and Democratic Hoke County Commissioner Allen Thomas of Raeford. Ellmers has a website promoting her an exploratory committee for the race. Thomas has announced his candidacy. Ellmers first ran for office in 2010 when her opposition to President Obama’s Affordable Care Act inspired her to seek the 2nd District congressional seat.
