Gottlieb's resignation may turn down FDA heat on tobacco industry

The polarized reaction to Dr. Scott Gottlieb’s resignation as Food and Drug Administration commissioner epitomized his nearly two-year stint atop the agency. Although Gottlieb targeted pharmaceutical manufacturers in addressing the opioid epidemic and high prescription-drug prices, it appears his leadership was known foremost nationally for how aggressively he tried to reduce youth exposure to traditional and electronic cigarettes.
