A bipartisan group of 114 House members sent a letter bright and early this morning to Lighthizer, urging the trade chief to "insist" on including agriculture in upcoming trade talks with Brussels. EU officials have been adamant that ag will not be part of the negotiations, an impasse that has roiled preliminary discussions.

The letter, led by Republicans Jackie Walorski and Virginia Foxx and Democrats Ron Kind and Angie Craig, says "an agreement with the EU that does not address trade in agriculture would be, in our eyes, unacceptable."

Warning shot: The large bloc of lawmakers said a trade deal that "fails to include agricultural products would be deficient, significantly jeopardizing congressional support."
