Agriculture and agribusiness account for one-sixth of North Carolina’s income and the state ranks eighth in the nation for total agricultural sales. Over $87 billion farm sales for food, fiber and forestry production affords employment for 17% of the state’s population. Within the counties of Craven, Carteret, Pamlico, and Jones, annual agricultural farm sales are approximately $54, $24, $65 and $130 million, respectively. Within these counties, primary field crop production includes tobacco, peanut, corn, soybean, and cotton. However, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, blueberries, nurseries, sod, aquaculture, and vegetable production also contribute to the $114 million annual crop farm sales.
