Trump on Friday nominated conservative economist Stephen Moore for a spot on the Federal Reserve board. The TV-friendly Trump ally has blamed Fed Chairman Jerome Powell for "wrecking our economy" and called for the central bank's leaders to be fired.

Moore in the past has also written disparagingly about federal ag programs, like a 2014 post for the Heritage Foundation criticizing "farm subsidies to wealthy agribusinesses" and "ethanol subsidies."

Blast from the past: In 2000 he penned a scathing piece in The Weekly Standard titled, "Want to be a millionaire? Get a farm," which torched ag policies like price supports and crop subsidies as politically motivated "farm socialism."

"What is strange about the Washington mindset regarding agriculture is that year after year, falling prices are treated as a tragedy," Moore wrote. "In virtually every other American industry, falling prices are generally regarded as a good thing because they directly benefit consumers."
