After a little more than a year Allen Thomas, executive director of the GlobalTrans Park and former mayor of Greenville, has stepped down from the GTP to run for the 3rd District U.S. House of Representatives congressional seat. Thomas’ run for the seat left vacant by the late Walter B. Jones Jr. will make 26 candidates now seeking to represent the 3rd District, which includes Lenoir County and a large portion of Eastern North Carolina. Thomas’ last day as executive director of the GTP was Monday.
