A state House bill cleared the first step Wednesday toward requiring all sheriffs to work with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to detain suspected undocumented immigrants in local jails. House Bill 370 was recommended by a 17-9 vote in the Judiciary committee. It must clear the House State and Local Government, and Rules and Operations committees before going to the House floor.
