Good afternoon,

In a
recent letter, NASDA asked the Committees on Appropriations to prioritize funding for rural health, state cooperative programs and food safety.

It’s vital that the Farmer & Rancher Stress Assistance Network be fully funded, as market turmoil and natural disasters across the nation have been especially destructive in 2019. Also, the partial government shutdown spanning from late last year into 2019 caused stress to state cooperative programs. It’s important that the governmental programs that farmers and ranchers depend on, especially in this challenging time for agriculture, are operating completely. NASDA members are the leaders across the nation responding to and solving the complex problems this year has presented to farmers and communities.

We are heartened to see the Administration prioritize state food safety programs in the budget. We’re happy to support its request, and we are excited to continue our work on implementing new produce safety inspections.

Best,

Sarah Grace Edison
