A day after being indicted by a federal grand jury, the chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party has relinquished his duties. The indictment accuses NC GOP chairman Robin Hayes of trying to funnel bribe money to the re-election campaign of North Carolina’s insurance commissioner. Hayes is also charged with three counts of making false statements to the FBI. Hayes has denied the allegations. Hayes announced Monday that he wouldn’t seek another term as NC GOP chairman, a decision he attributed to health concerns.
