Neill Grading & Construction Co. will begin work on the redesign of Union Square and surrounding streets next week, according to a city of Hickory press release. The Downtown Hickory Farmers Market, which starts April 20, will move to the parking lot by Lowes Foods City Park as a result of construction. The site is to the west of Union Square. The new plans for downtown call for additional lighting, seating areas, new restrooms and a new multiuse structure on the square.
