The future pulled into the Port of Wilmington Monday as the port welcomed its largest capacity ship ever with the arrival of the Kota Pekarang. The vessel measured 12,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit), a shipping measurement that uses the dimensions of a standard 20-foot shipping container as approximately one TEU. “This is a monumental milestone for North Carolina Ports and the Port of Wilmington,” Paul Cozza, the ports’ executive director, said in a release. “This is proof of concept that we are big ship ready and capable of handling some of the largest container vessels calling East Coast ports today.” For more of this story, click here.
