Gov. Cooper nomination could unseat chairman of the N.C. Utilities Commission

Gov. Roy Cooper has proposed three new nominees — including Sen. Floyd McKissick, D-Durham — to the N.C. Utilities Commission in a move that would take its current chairman, Ed Finley, off the regulatory board. But the nominees must be approved by the Republican-led state Senate, and that may not happen for a while. And if Finley’s replacement is not approved, he could continue to serve on the commission until a replacement is installed.
