Soybean farmers this month will have the chance to call for a referendum on whether their federal checkoff should continue. USDA, in a Federal Register notice on Wednesday, said 10 percent of the more than 515,000 producers pooling their money into the checkoff must request a vote by May 31 to trigger it. Only 324 farmers did so during the most recent opportunity in 2014, making it unlikely USDA will be forced to call a vote. To view the notice, click here.
