Triad university wins grant to take on food deserts

A project from Winston-Salem State University has earned a two-year $100,000 grant though the American Heart Association this week. WSSU won the first Empowered to Serve Urban Health Accelerator grant at the AHA's Healthy Community Challenge Showcase, held at the International Civil Rights Center & Museum in Greensboro.  The winning project seeks to address food insecurity in the estimated 21 food deserts around WSSU.
