USPOULTRY and Foundation approve $415,000 in research grants

USPOULTRY and the USPOULTRY Foundation have approved approximately $415,000 for six new research grants at six institutions.

The research funding was approved by the boards of directors of both organizations, based on recommendations from the Foundation Research Advisory Committee, which is comprised of professional specialists from different segments of the poultry and egg industry.

The research grants for each institution include:
• “Fate and Effect of Commercial Peracetic Acid Solutions in Poultry Processing Waste Water Biological Treatment Processes” at Georgia Tech Research Institute through a research grant made possible in part by an endowing Foundation gift from the Stanley & Dorothy Frank Family Foundation.
• “Effect of Protease Enzyme on Corn and Soybean Meal-Based Laying Hen Diet to Reduce Feed Cost, Improve Egg Quality and Egg Solids in Post-Peak and Late Lay” at
• Mississippi State University through a research grant made possible in part by an endowing Foundation gift from Cal-Maine Foods.
• “Evaluating the Impact of Ventilation Shutdown for Depopulation of Broiler Breeders During a Foreign Animal Disease Outbreak” at North Carolina State University through a research grant made possible in part by an endowing Foundation gift from Case Farms.
• “Cage-Free Pullet Density: Production and Welfare Outcomes” at Purdue University through a research grant made possible in part by an endowing Foundation gift from CCF Brands.
• “Feed Additive for Reducing Incidence of Wooden Breast Disease in Commercial Broiler Chickens” at University of Delaware through a research grant made possible in part by an endowing Foundation gift from Mountaire Farms.
• “Evaluation of a Drinker System with or without Trays on House Litter Conditions, Bird Performance, Health and Welfare” at University of Georgia through a research grant made possible in part by an endowing Foundation gift from Claxton Poultry.
