Senate Ag to consider three USDA nominations

The Senate Agriculture Committee will meet Tuesday on Trump's nominees for three long-vacant USDA roles: Mindy Brashears for food safety undersecretary; Naomi Earp for civil rights assistant secretary; and Scott Hutchins for research, education and economics undersecretary.

How we got here: Brashears, Earp and Hutchins were originally nominated in 2018 and advanced by the Agriculture Committee late last year. But the full Senate, amid a broader backlog, never took up the three nominees before the legislative session ended.

— Trump renominated the three when the new Congress began in January, and Perdue appointed them to serve in "deputy" roles (which don't require Senate confirmation) in the meantime.

Since then, the officials have gradually started putting their stamp on issues under their jurisdiction. That also means they now have more of a record for senators to consider.
Mark your calendar: The committee is set to meet Tuesday off the Senate floor, in conjunction with floor votes.
