North Carolina is the 18th best state in the U.S., according to a ranking released today by U.S. News & World Report. The state scored the highest marks for fiscal stability, and the lowest for opportunity and environment. North Carolina scored better than two neighboring states – Tennessee (30th) and South Carolina (42nd). Virginia ranked 7th. The Best States rankings shows how each of the 50 U.S. states ranks in 71 metrics across eight categories.
