U.S. News: NC ranks 18th on Best States list, scores highest in fiscal stability

North Carolina is the 18th best state in the U.S., according to a ranking released today by U.S. News & World Report. The state scored the highest marks for fiscal stability, and the lowest for opportunity and environment. North Carolina scored better than two neighboring states – Tennessee (30th) and South Carolina (42nd). Virginia ranked 7th. The Best States rankings shows how each of the 50 U.S. states ranks in 71 metrics across eight categories. The data behind the rankings aims to show how well states serve their residents in a variety of ways.
