The farm near Sanford is a working North Carolina Century Farm and agritourism business. How did this business get started? John Gross, who owns Gross Farms in Sanford with his wife, Tina, began farming with his dad in 1983 while still in high school. He first planted 3 acres of tobacco, he said, and bought his first farm in 1985, a year after he graduated. “It was a 43-acre farm near us, that belonged to my granddad,” he said.
