The USDA has appointed five people to the National Pork Board for three-year terms:
• Russell A. Nugent III of Lowell, Ark.
• Gene Noem of Ames, Iowa
• Bill Luckey of Columbus, Neb.
• Alicia Pedemonti of Hopkinton, N.H.
• Michael P. Skahill of Williamsburg, Va.

The National Pork Board includes 15 pork producers nominated by the National Pork Producers Delegate Body, which itself is made up of 132 producer and importer members.

Since 1966, Congress has authorized the development of industry-funded research and promotion boards to provide a framework for agricultural industries to pool their resources and combine efforts to develop new markets, strengthen existing markets, and conduct important research and promotion activities. The Agricultural Marketing Service provides oversight of 22 boards, paid for by industry assessments, which helps ensure fiscal accountability and program integrity.

The pork program was created and is administered under the authority of the Pork Promotion, Research, and Consumer Information Act of 1985.
