North Carolina senate budget writers have voted to put new water quality requirements for large hog farms on hold for a year to allow lawmakers to review the proposals. The state Department of Environmental Quality revised permit requirements for hog farms with more than 250 animals that use pits and spray fields to dispose of hog waste. These changes were set to begin Oct. 1, 2019, but have now been postponed until Oct. 1, 2020. For more of this story, click here.
