Reynolds faces $17.25 million in damages awards in Mass. smoker's lawsuit

A Massachusetts jury has determined that R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. should pay a total of $17.5 million to the family of an individual who smoked for decades before dying of lung cancer in 2016. The family of Pamela Coyne was awarded $6.26 million in compensatory damages and $11.27 million in punitive damages in a verdict announced Monday in Lowell, Mass.
