Story Date: 6/17/2019

Source: WILSON COUNTY EXTENSION, 6/14/19

The first report of Cucurbit Downy Mildew in NC was submitted yesterday. This means we need to be looking out for it and spraying as needed. This disease is airborne and therefore an annual "tradition" if you will. It's not a question of "if" we get it, its a question of "when" we get it.

Below are some links that would be helpful. The first is for Dr. Lina Quesada's lab. She posts updates regularly on common diseases and updates on those diseases.

The Cucurbit Downy Mildew reporting is a website that tracks the movement of this pathogen every year. This site also has tips on how to identify the symptoms to help you make management decisions.

The final link is the NCSU disease fact sheet on the pathogen and in that article there are chemical control options.

If you suspect that you have it, or would like more information, please contact the Wilson County Extension Office at 252-237-0111.
