The House on Thursday rifled through amendments to the fiscal 2020 Agriculture-FDA appropriations bill, part of a broader spending package on the floor this week. The bulk of the proposed amendments to the ag section — 27 of them — were adopted en bloc by voice vote. One of the few provisions that drew some debate was an amendment from freshman Rep. Lauren Underwood to prohibit USDA and other agencies from wiping any climate change information from official publications, writes Pro Ag's Ryan McCrimmon.

The Illinois Democrat said climate references have been "scrubbed from many federal websites and publications" under the Trump administration, though she didn't cite specific examples.

Not feeling it: Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-Neb.) said lawmakers should be more focused on other issues than "trying to control what words USDA officials use to describe changing weather conditions."

"If the USDA was going to completely wipe away this terminology for political purposes, which was implied, they would have done so over the past two and a half years," Fortenberry said. A USDA spokesperson told MA the department "does not remove 'references to climate change from official publications.'"
