Heat, drought taking a toll on Carolina crops

While there have been scattered showers and thunderstorms of late across much of North and South Carolina, many areas are suffereing from the extended dry spell and searing temperatures. “Irrigated crops are doing well,” according to Pitt County (NC) Extension Agent Carrie Ortel in the latest Weather and Crops Report from NASS, “(but) the two droughts have taken a toll on all dry land crops. Insect pressure is high.”
