Commissioner Troxler to speak at Ag Sciences Center event

WHO/WHAT: Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler will speak at the NCDA&CS Agricultural Sciences Center topping out celebration. This event traditionally marks the occasion when the last piece of steel is placed in a construction project.
Troxler will be joined by HH Architecture of Raleigh and Dunn Loving, construction managers. The 220,000-square-foot laboratory complex is being built with funding from the Connect NC bonds approved by voters in 2016.

WHEN: Thursday, July 25 at 11 a.m.

WHERE: Corner of Edwards Mill and Reedy Creek roads

The event will take place on the site of the new center. In addition to the topping out celebration, media will be provided a tour and an update on the progress of the lab facility. Closed-toed shoes and long pants are required for the tour. Hard hats and safety glasses will be provided.

MORE INFO: The $107-million center will replace facilities used by the department’s Food and Drug Protection, Standards, Structural Pest Control and Pesticides, and Veterinary divisions. The labs in the facility conduct tests pertaining to food safety, animal disease diagnosis, weights and measures calibration, and motor fuel quality. 
This lab is the first of its kind in the country offering this level of combined services and the largest construction project ever undertaken by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The project is projected to be completed in late fall of 2020.
