Today, the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture submitted written testimony for the record to the United States Senate Committee on Finance regarding their Public Hearing on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Given the important role exports play in ensuring a prosperous agriculture sector, promoting exports and increasing international trade is a top priority for NASDA.

“U.S. farmers, ranchers, and agribusinesses are facing uncertainty in the global marketplace and a weak farm economy. Congress can provide a much-needed boost to agricultural producers and rural communities by bringing the USMCA into force as quickly as possible. The benefits of such a move will also be felt across many sectors of the economy,” NASDA CEO Dr. Barbara P. Glenn said in written testimony.

“Increased market access, streamlined customs procedures, and enhanced standards for biotechnology are just a few of the improvements included in this 21st-century agreement. With ratification of the USMCA in the rearview mirror, the full force of the federal government can focus on tearing down trade barriers for U.S. agriculture around the world.”

“We thank Chairman Grassley and Ranking Member Wyden for hosting this hearing to address the critical importance of the USMCA to agriculture and all other facets of our economy.”
