This weekend, a local story about three dogs dying after exposure to harmful blue-green algae spread across social media, and around the country. Soon after a swim in a clear Wilmington pond, first Abby, and then Izzy and Harpo, began seizing and were taken to an emergency veterinary clinic around 8 p.m. Thursday. They died a few hours later. Melissa Martin, one of the pets’ owners, posted about it on social media to let others know about the potential danger.
