A mosquito trapped off Greenville Loop Road has tested positive for West Nile virus. New Hanover County announced Monday afternoon that the county’s vector control department will step up surveillance and control measures in Wilmington’s Greenville Loop area. Spraying will take place Tuesday starting at 6 p.m., weather permitting. “While human incidence of West Nile Virus is rare, it is a dangerous disease with no cure or vaccine for people, so residents should protect themselves by preventing mosquito bites,” said county Health Director Phillip Tarte.
