WNC orchard insect pest populations – September 2, 2019

Brown marmorated stink bug populations continue to increase in numbers, with the overall average trap capture across all orchards increasing from 3.1 to 6.0 per trap during the past week. This increase is a combination of the last of the first generation nymphs completing development and increased activity of adults as they begin moving to overwintering sites. While adult numbers will remain high for the next few weeks, the potential for damage will gradually decline as a larger percentage of the population focuses on seeking overwintering sites as opposed to feeding on fruit.
