Chairman Collin Peterson (D-Minn.) and ranking member Mike Conaway (R-Texas) will join influential industry groups and other lawmakers for a rally Thursday morning in support of the new North American trade pact. With Congress back in session this week, a number of agriculture organizations are also hosting fly-ins to meet with lawmakers and press for USMCA ratification, among other priorities.

September is expected to be a critical month for House Democrats and Trump's trade negotiators to resolve the issues surrounding USMCA, which was announced nearly a year ago. Several centrist freshmen Democrats are ratcheting up their calls for a vote after hearing from frustrated farmers in their districts during the August recess — but others predict the process will slip into 2020.
Peterson has remained supportive of Trump's signature trade achievement, though he's frequently cautioned the deal won't be the game-changer for agriculture that many proponents claim.

Who's going: Farm groups at the Thursday rally will include the American Farm Bureau Federation; National Corn Growers Association; American Soybean Association; National Association of Wheat Growers; Farmers for Free Trade; National Milk Producers Federation; and the U.S. Apple Association. Former Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will also attend.
