NC State University’s Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering (BAE) continues to improve in national rankings. In the 2020 U.S. News and World Report rankings, BAE was ranked No. 6 among biological and agricultural engineering undergraduate programs.

This was an improvement from the previous year’s ranking of No. 10. BAE’s graduate program is currently ranked No. 8, and updated rankings will be released in the spring.

“This improvement in our undergraduate ranking is a product of the outstanding students, faculty, professionals, and staff in our department,” noted Department Head Garey Fox. “I am proud of our accomplishments to date and cannot wait to see the additional progress we make in the next several years as we continue to grow and strengthen the program.”

U.S. News has released the rankings to offer guidance to college-bound students and families since the first edition was published in 1983.

U.S. News considers 15 metrics when ranking schools for academic excellence, placing the largest emphasis on a college’s ability to retain and graduate its students. Other factors include class size, undergraduate academic reputation and how much a school spends per student on instruction and other related educational expenses.
