A blue ribbon at the Madison County Fair is up for grabs for a handful of students taking their first steps towards a life in farming, steps they’ll be taking alongside 6-month-old calves. Twice each week, 12 students as young as third graders meet at a small barn near the Madison County Animal Shelter for the Madison 4-H Dairy Project. There they learn how to meet the basic needs of dairy calves born in the spring and how to manage the otherwise untrained animals. For more of this story, click here.
