North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring, newly elected President of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA), issued the following statement today following the distribution of a letter to Congress underscoring the urgent need to ratify the U.S.-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) before the end of 2019. The letter comes following the passage of an Action Item by NASDA Members at the NASDA Annual Meeting in Albuquerque last week.

“The U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement is a vital trade agreement for the U.S. food and agriculture industry. With the farm economy facing headwinds, securing a strong trade agreement with two of our largest export markets will provide a much-needed boost for producers across the country. NASDA urges Congress and the administration to work together on successful ratification and implementation of the USMCA.”

NASDA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association which representants the elected and appointed commissioners, secretaries and directors of the departments of agriculture in all fifty states and four U.S. territories. NASDA grows and enhances agriculture by forging partnerships and creating consensus to achieve sound policy outcomes between state departments of agriculture, the federal government and stakeholders.
