Dr. Barbara P. Glenn, CEO of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA), today released the following statement after sending official comments about China’s compliance with its World Trade Organization (WTO) obligations to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative:

“The Chinese market has become more open to U.S. agriculture and food products since China joined the WTO in 2001. But China continues to ignore key tenets of the WTO’s agricultural trade rules. Bringing China’s agricultural trading regime into compliance with its WTO obligations would vastly increase export opportunities for U.S. producers and benefit Chinese consumers. NASDA remains hopeful that President Trump and President Xi can come to an agreement that avoids further tariffs, restores market access for U.S. agriculture, and addresses the significant tariff and non-tariff barriers that China continues to impose.”

NASDA represents the elected and appointed commissioners, secretaries, and directors of the departments of agriculture in all fifty states and four U.S. territories.  NASDA grows and enhances agriculture by forging partnerships and creating consensus to achieve sound policy outcomes between state departments of agriculture, the federal government, and stakeholders.
