National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) CEO Dr. Barbara P. Glenn today issued the following statement following the submission of comments on the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) proposed rule regarding temporary agricultural employment of H-2A nonimmigrants in the United States.

“Expensive. Confusing. Unclear. These are all complaints we have heard for years about the H-2A program. DOL’s proposed rule addresses many of these complaints.  We thank DOL for taking an essential initial step to provide our farmers and ranchers with the 21st century workforce they need. We are ready to work with DOL and other federal partners to press forward on modernizing our approach to agricultural labor in the U.S.”

NASDA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association which represents the elected and appointed commissioners, secretaries, and directors of the departments of agriculture in all fifty states and four U.S. territories.  NASDA grows and enhances agriculture by forging partnerships and creating consensus to achieve sound policy outcomes between state departments of agriculture, the federal government, and stakeholders.
