Fall is upon us, and though summer is over and school is back in session, gardening is far from done. This season is the perfect time to sample your soil in gardens, lawns, and farms to prepare for next year’s growing season. Results from fall soil samples allow ample time to apply amendments, such as fertilizer and lime, to improve soil fertility for next year’s growing season. Throughout most of the year, residents of North Carolina may have their soil tested free by the Agronomic Division of the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in Raleigh.
