Two coincidental events last week dovetail with our college road trip series. The first was relatively local for those of us in Illinois: Scott Irwin at the U of I conducted a webinar on the 20th anniversary of farmdoc – an extension website that I have used regularly both on our farm and here on the show. He tied the story of how farmdoc has grown and changed to the question of the future of extension. The presentation is available on-line, and I highly recommend it. I also spoke to Scott and was not surprised to learn the future of extension as we have known it – what is called the high-touch model – may not be viable due to funding and how farmers want to get information.
