Analysts believe black ink and a profitable year are ahead for the typical pork producer. Friday’s September Quarterly Hogs and Pigs Report came in with the highest Sept. 1 inventory of all hogs and pigs reports since the estimates began in 1988. According to USDA’s count of all hogs and pigs on Sept. 1, 2019, total inventory was 77.7 million head, up 3% from a year ago and up 3% from June 1.
