Senator: Don’t trip at starting line on hemp (Sen. Brent Jackson)

In a series of letters to media outlets last week, Senator Brent Jackson (R-Sampson) backed up his support for this year’s proposed Farm Act, reiterating the importance he believes the hemp industry holds in North Carolina. In the first of the letters, Jackson said he felt it was “important to add some context concerning the history of hemp cultivation” in North Carolina. In 2015, the General Assembly created the hemp pilot program, which allowed for farmers to grow hemp throughout the state. Since then, the sale of hemp products has expanded dramatically, he noted.
