The Department of Agriculture just updated pumpkin production data, showing production is widely dispersed throughout the United States. All U.S. states produce some pumpkins, but the top nine states together (Illinois, California, Ohio, Indiana, Texas, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina and New York) produced nearly 75% of all pumpkins in 2018. Illinois is consistently the nation’s largest producer of pumpkins, the majority of which are used for pies and other processed foods.
