North Carolina permit will allow another wood pellet plant to expand

For the second time this month, the state has issued an air pollution permit that will reduce emissions at a wood pellet plant in Eastern North Carolina even as it allows the plant to expand production. The permit from the Division of Air Quality says Enviva can make up to 781,255 tons of oven-dried wood pellets a year at its Northampton County plant near Roanoke Rapids. That’s 45% more than under the current permit for the plant, which opened in 2013.
