Lawmakers seek to change hours of service for livestock haulers

Livestock haulers could get a reprieve from federal Hours of Service rules under a bill introduced in Congress on Wednesday. Rep. Angie Craig, D-Minn., and Rep. Lloyd Smucker, R-Pa., introduced a bill and found an acronym to go with it as well, the Responsible & Efficient Agriculture Destination (TREAD) Act. Under the bill, drivers hauling livestock or perishable commodities could finish their routes if they are within 150 miles of their hauling destination. The bill would exempt agricultural haulers year-round.
