Senate Finance Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said the Trump administration and House Democrats negotiating changes to USMCA need to seal the deal this week, or else Congress won't be able to ratify the agreement this year, reports Pro Trade's Megan Cassella.

The House on Monday extended its legislative schedule by one week, so lawmakers will remain in town until Dec. 20, when a continuing resolution expires. Still, there's an extremely tight window for ratifying the trade deal, which requires a series of procedural steps laid out by the 2015 trade promotion law.

There are signs that a compromise could be announced within days. But Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has raised doubts that Congress could ratify USMCA this year, even if Democrats and the White House officially agree on the changes soon.
